My Adventures in Memphis, TN

Hello. I have not posted in a minute but I wanted to take this time to discuss my adventures in Memphis, TN.

So, I went to Memphis to learn about my ServiceMaster business officially. I was shocked to say in the least that Memphis has not really came out of the 1970's in alot of aspects. I am not talking about the look of the city....Germantown, were I was staying at the Hyatt Place Hotel was updated and beautiful. I am talking about SOME of the people, were it seems as the traditions of the south is still running far and free.

To say that I felt a little out of place would be a understatement. I would say that I am a modern liberal, with some leaning of being a independent voter. To swing to far to the right, so to speak, is much to far for me. Well, I ran alot into the far right wing and the openness to talk about the two "R's" and the "P" Race, Religion and Politics.....those famous discussions we stay away from up north...not to offend people we are not that comfortable with.

Regardless, there was many, many good points. First, I want to give a big SHOUT OUT to McAllister Deli, who feed us great the entire two weeks at the academy. Second SHOUT OUT is to the Home Office Travel and Planning department for giving us a great hotel room and other items that made me very comfortable with my visit their.....Crystal is the BEST!!! Third to the training set-up and the various trainers that really made ever effort to ensure that a new franchise understood the business model. ServiceMaster Clean training program is awesome and a special SHOUT OUT to Mike in the training department.

Also, I could not finish this blog without SHOUTING OUT the people that made my business venture possible.....Dave, Joe, Shane, Dinah and Gary!!! Thank you all especially, from the bottom of my heart for all of your effort to giving me this opportunity.

So, future blogs will be about the start of my business. Official, my start date was July 1, 2008 but I have been going feet first since the beginning of June. So, my blogging friends will have a step by step update of my first year in business. I hope you all enjoy reading my adventures.

Everything is Fine

Hello. I know the last time I updated the blog, I was wondering why my husband had to sign a personal guarantee in order to have my business get off the ground. Well, things have changed and he will just have to sign a non-compete. Life is good here.

I swear as the moment of opening the business grows closer, the more scared I get. Anxiety and panic is setting in. I am wondering if the business will fail, if it does how will I pay my franchise fees, have I taken on more than I can chew. Really, I hope this crap wears off because right now, my fears are overtaking the excitement of opening my business. Is this normal?

As for the kids, the son in the picture is having his open house on Saturday. Looks like rain in Michigan for the third straight freaking Saturday in a row. I swear on Monday, when I looked at the forecast, it was suppose to be sunny and no clouds. Leave it to the weather to screw with great plans. The party will go on...I just hope for not a complete rain out.

Finally, I am off to Memphis for training on Sunday. I hate flying but I believe that all will be well. If anyone has flying tips, feel free to share. Talk with you soon.

Personal Guarantee??

What is up with a Personal Guarantee? I got approval for my business on my own credit and assets and now, right before we began my Adventures in Cleaning..the company is insisting that both me and my spouse sign this agreement.

The problem is that my spouse and I separate our assets...always have. I know that this is unusual for a marriage but for my husband and I, this has worked great for the last eight years we have been married. I want this business more than I can say. In fact, I have began dreaming about it (LOL) but, to place my spouse assets (whatever they might be) in danger if I fail (which I firmly believe that I will not) at this business would be unfair and not right to him.

I guess I am wondering is Personal Guarantee's the norm when one spouse has been approved on their own creditworthiness. Maybe someone in cyberspace can chime in and let me know. Thanks, in advance.

Welcome To The Adventures in Cleaning and Life Events Blog

Hello. This is my first blog covering my Adventures in Cleaning and Other Life Events. I guess the first thing I need to do is introduce myself.

My name is Monica, a ex-corporate Retail Sales Manager for two of the four major telecommunications companies. I sold wireless products for over five years and was pretty darn good at it too. I made President's Club, many STAR Awards for excellent customer service standards, many 100% Service Excellence Scores, Data Generation Awards, Top 15% of Retail Stores out of 1500...I could go on and on.

The point of telling this story is how well corporate America treats a "All-Star". At company number 1, I was never promoted, got upset after three years of killing all metrics and went (after starting my Gift Basket Company-Special Gift Baskets for U) to company number 2. Well things were great at company 2 until the Area Manager changed from a really great guy to a witch from the Midwest.

Losing three relatives during this time did not help in the least. My Father and both Grandmother's died within a four month period. I tried to work, please the boss (the witch) and grieve all at the same time. Well, to say that did not work well is a understatement. Regardless, the witch would not quit and I started thinking that maybe it is high time for me to leave corporate America.

Then, I started looking into different business. Four months and 10 businesses opportunities later...I decided to enter the Commercial Cleaning Business. Soon, I will open a Franchised Commercial Cleaning Business in Southeastern Michigan. I am looking forward to telling this life-change story in this blog.

For other life events..my son (the one in the picture) graduated from high school last Thursday and I am so proud of him that he will be standing by me in my blog for awhile. My daughter is a Senior now and she is shouting it to anyone that will listen. Me....I am looking forward to writing in this blog and getting my business to be profitable in the first six months. Feel free to comment on strategies and tips that you think might work for me (on the business level, please) and look forward to sharing my life with you.
